Constituent Services

Making Government Work For You

A Citizens’ Guide to State Services
Created by the Massachusetts Secretary of State, this site contains information about state services, agencies, and contact points. You can find services arranged by broad subject headings, search for specific words, or use the index.

Casework
Constituents who are experiencing difficulty with a state agency may contact the office for assistance. While Representative McCarthy cannot alter or reverse agency decisions and orders, he can help ensure that constituents receive clear information about their case in a timely manner.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to some frequently asked questions may be found at MassResources.org. The site provides useful information about a wide range programs, including what benefits are available, how to apply, and eligibility requirements.

Recognition Requests
Representative McCarthy is happy to provide congratulatory citations from the House recognizing significant milestones and achievements, including birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and Eagle Scout awards.

To request a citation, please contact the office at least two weeks prior to the event with the following information:

  • Name of person to whom it will be presented
  • A brief description of the accomplishment or occasion
  • The date on which the citation will be presented

Flag Requests

Allen’s office can arrange for constituents to purchase a flag that has flown over the State House. You may choose either a United States or Massachusetts flag, and several sizes are available. This service is not provided at taxpayer expense, so a small fee will be charged to cover the cost of the flag. Please contact the office for prices.

State House Tours
Representative McCarthy enjoys showing constituents around Massachusetts’ beautiful and historic State House. We can accommodate almost any group, from large school field trips to small family outings. Tours may be booked through our office for weekdays between 10:00am and 3:30pm.

Internships
Representative McCarthy offers internships in his State House office to college students with an interest in politics and public policy. Interns assist the representative and his staff with the full scope of their duties, including:

  • Researching public policy issues, including proposed and pending legislation
  • Drafting constituent correspondence and briefing materials
  • Attending legislative hearings and other meetings

To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter, and 3-5 page writing sample to the office. Internships are offered throughout the year, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
